dormakaba BEST 1E Series is a high-security mortise and rim cylinder designed to provide reliable, durable, and flexible access control for commercial and institutional applications. Precision-machined from solid brass or bronze bar stock, the BEST 1E Series can be configured with various cams and cylinder rings to suit both dormakaba and other manufacturers' locksets, making it highly adaptable for new installations and retrofits. The cylinder complies with ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 and UL requirements, making it suitable for educational institutions, healthcare facilities, government buildings, retail developments, and commercial buildings. Manufactured in Indianapolis, USA, the cylinder is composed primarily of 41% brass, 27% stainless steel, 26% steel, and 5% paper, weighs 0.26 kg, and is certified to ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, providing a minimum of 40,000 operating cycles for dependable long-term performance.
The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is prepared in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2 and is independently verified by the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU). The declaration follows a cradle-to-gate with options life cycle assessment covering A1–A3, A4, A5, C1–C4, and Module D, evaluating environmental impacts from raw material extraction, manufacturing, transportation, installation, end-of-life processing, and recycling potential. The BEST 1E Series has a Global Warming Potential (GWP A1–A3) of 10.6 kg CO₂e per cylinder, incorporates approximately 2.03 kg of secondary (recycled) material, and is designed for 100% collection for recycling at the end of its service life. The EPD provides transparent, independently verified life-cycle environmental data to support LEED, BREEAM, and ESG reporting.
