Arabian Gulf Steel Industries (AGSI) Carbon Steel Reinforcing Bar is a high-strength reinforcing steel bar manufactured through the secondary (scrap-based) steel production route, where recycled steel scrap is melted in an Induction Furnace (IF), continuously cast into billets, and hot rolled into reinforcing bars for reinforced concrete structures. The product complies with BS 4449:2005+A3:2016, providing a minimum yield strength of 500 MPa, minimum tensile strength of 540 MPa, maximum carbon equivalent (Ceq) of 0.50%, excellent weldability, fatigue resistance, and rebend performance. Manufactured at AGSI's steel plant in Abu Dhabi and rolling mill in Hamriyah Free Zone, Sharjah (UAE), the reinforcing bar contains approximately 97% iron and 3% alloying elements, incorporates 98.0% recycled content (including internal and external scrap) (97.8% external recycled content only), and is produced using 100% nuclear-backed electricity through Abu Dhabi Clean Energy Certificates (I-REC), significantly reducing manufacturing emissions. The product is designed for a 50-year reference service life and achieves an approximately 92% end-of-life recycling rate, supporting circular economy principles. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is independently verified by CARES and prepared in accordance with ISO 14025, EN 15804+A2:2019/AC2021, and the CARES Product Category Rules for Type III EPDs of Semi-Finished and Finished Steel Products (February 2025). The declaration is based on a cradle-to-gate with options life cycle assessment covering Modules A1–A3, A4, A5, B1–B7, C1–C4, and Module D, providing transparent environmental data from raw material sourcing through manufacturing, transportation, installation, use, end-of-life, and recycling benefits. The declared unit is 1 tonne of carbon steel reinforcing bar manufactured via the secondary (scrap-based) production route, with a Global Warming Potential (GWP A1–A3) of 218 kg CO₂e per tonne. The EPD reports detailed indicators for climate change, resource use, water consumption, waste generation, and recycling potential, making it suitable for LEED v4.1, BREEAM, Envision, infrastructure projects, procurement sustainability assessments, and ESG reporting.
