Notes
This Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available for the dormakaba BEST 45H Mortise Lock. For sustainability documentation relating to other products in this category, DL Series 2xxx / 9xxx, and BEST 47H Mortise Series, please contact Scope3Materials (S3M) to connect with the manufacturer and obtain the relevant Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and supporting sustainability documentation.
dormakaba BEST 45H Mortise Series is a high-security mortise lock engineered to deliver exceptional strength, security, and durability for demanding, high-traffic applications. Featuring precision-engineered internal components and a robust construction, the BEST 45H is designed for long-term performance and is backed by an industry-leading limited lifetime mechanical warranty. The lock complies with ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Grade 1, ANSI A117.1 (ADA Accessibility), UL, Florida Building Code (FBC), and Miami-Dade County Code requirements, making it suitable for educational facilities, healthcare buildings, government institutions, retail developments, and commercial buildings. Manufactured in Indianapolis, USA, the lock is primarily composed of 50% brass, 29% steel, 11% stainless steel, 5% electronics, 4% zinc, and 1% plastics. It weighs 3.8 kg and is independently tested to withstand more than 10 million operating cycles, significantly exceeding the ANSI Grade 1 requirement of 1 million cycles. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is prepared in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2 and is independently verified by the Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU). The declaration follows a cradle-to-gate with options life cycle assessment covering A1–A3, A4, A5, B6, C1–C4, and Module D, evaluating environmental impacts from raw material extraction, manufacturing, transportation, installation, operational energy use, end-of-life processing, and recycling potential. The BEST 45H has a Global Warming Potential (GWP A1–A3) of 9.94 kg CO₂e per mortise lock, incorporates 2.61 kg of secondary (recycled) material, and is designed for 100% collection for recycling at the end of its service life. The EPD provides transparent, independently verified life-cycle environmental data to support LEED, BREEAM, and ESG reporting.
